​​Buttercup Dairies consists of a herd of 20 cows milked on 5 ha of our commercial dairy farm.

Commercial Dairy Farm:

• 540 happy, healthy cows
• 175 ha
• Seasonal spring calving herd
• Effluent is stored in a storage pond and irrigated onto pasture when conditions are appropriate
• 44 aside Herringbone Farm Dairy shed
• Cows are DNA profiled to identify those animals that carry the A2 gene

We are a Registered "Raw Milk Farm Dairy Operator" with the Ministry of Primary Industries.

The nucleus of our dairy herd has been in our family for over 60 years. We breed crossbred cows (Fresian x  Jersey) as this medium stature hardy cow suits this climate and soil conditions and gives us the best of both breeds.

We have a strong emphasis on animal well being and best practise in all areas of our herd husbandry. We treat our cows as part of our family as they are the cornerstone of our business.

Welfarm is one of the best practice initiatives XLVets have developed for New Zealand farmers; one of the key benefits of which is providing assurance to the growing power of big food retailers and food brands, to satisfy the demands of their consumers with regards to food safety and animal health and wellbeing.
